Hi Jordan, I agree with you completely.
Guess what. I've bought stocks in PPD. That's because I have worked with
Smalltalk from 1996 and know it WAS a good language. It gave ideas to designers
of other systems and languages and now here we are. PPD stock has crashed.
But people simply don't realize, that maybe Smalltalk is in a crisis, but not
necessary PPD.
So this thread shouldn't be "Goodbye ParcPlace". Instead it should be "GoodBye
Smalltalk".

Thanks to Smalltalk I learned all the most important concepts of OO. So did PPD.

NOW they can be leaders in OO application development frameworks or whatever we
will call it. People finally woke up and now they appreciate the other
technology that has been influenced by Smalltalk. So PPD does Java, distributed
objects, Smalltalk..... (maybe some other surprise?)
I wish PPD will use the all experience it gained by building Smalltalk systems
and will transfer it into new OO technology.

I have there my personal interest. My money. Why do I buy, while other are
selling? Because they are short sighted. They don't see the potential of the
company. The wonder will not happen tomorrow.
Wait until next week.
