Greetings Smalltalker:

At our June meeting, when I went to introduce
guest speaker, David N.
Smith, I stumbled on what I should say. Who is
this gentleman really?
Up on his web page (www.dnsmith.com) he is
presented as a Senior
Programmer at IBM's TJ Watson Research Center in
Hawthorne, NY. Some
how it didn't seem to do him justice, just
rattling all of this rot.
This is the guy who is so active on
comp.lang.smalltalk! So I turned to
David and humbly admitted that I didn't know by
what title I should
present him. He pulled out one of his business
cards, and handed it to
me. Amongst all the normal mumbo-jumbo, etc.,
there it was as clear as
day: David N. Smith, Smalltalk Guru. And what a
treat it was, to hear
the inside scoop about the future changes in the
Smalltalk Standards.
He emphasized to send comments to the committee.
So let's all speak up!

This month I am please to present, jointly with
with the Statistics,
Demographics, and Mapping SIG, John Peterson from
Object/FX. We extend
a special welcome to GISMO members.

We will have a special meeting in August during
the Object Expo in NYC.
Our guest will be Ken Auer of KSC. Please note,
that according Jeff
Britton, a "symposium" has quite an interesting
definition; akin to a
"gathering with wine".

The intermediate group is being very active. If
you would like to become
involved in the CARS Project (Computer[Commuter]
Automated Ride Share),
please contact one of the Team leaders.

Regards,

Ted McKnight
co-chair, New York Smalltalk Users Group
