I have a project in which I want to replace a 3-wire RS-232 interface
with wireless remote, primarily for safety and noise, but also
for convenience. I still need 2-way communication. Can someone
help me find a simple, economical, yet good circuit???
I have a regulated 5V available.

I assume infrared is "the way to go," but RF may also work.
I would really like a cheap chipset, or to build it from discrete
components. I am trying to keep the cost down. I know I may need
one, or two, e.g. 9V batteries. It needs to fit in a small case.
I may be making a bunch of these, so I don't want something illegal...

Thanks in advance.
