Well, it has come time to finally try to proto this board, and worse; to
program it. I have dreamed of writing code for my 6809 project in 'C'
and cross-compiling it on my Sun workstation, or possibly my PC. Hah!
what dream, I DID code it in 'C'! Now, I am trying to create the cross
compiler for 'C' from the gnu source. I have accessed the Tom Jones
files at larry.sal.wisc.edu, and found a great deal of help there for
creating the compiler but require more information required to create
the cross assembler and archiver.

My question is this: is there anyone out there who has performed the 'C'
cross compiler for the m6809 chip using gnu? If not, what cross
compiler should I be trying to use for the chip if I want to use 'C'?

I hope this is not a FAQ, and I appreciate all of your attention.

Have you checked in comp.os.os9.*? The 6809 runs *real* good under OS9.
If all else fails, you could prolly scam a Rat Shack Color Computer &
OS9 for it for dirt cheep (I got it here somewhere myself). Including
Microware C, a plain vanilla K&R C without the bitfields.

Nice things to know about OS9 is that it's ROMable, reentrant, and
relatively easy to work with. And I *KNOW* that somebody was working on
porting the gcc compiler to OS9, so if you could get some source for it,
you *might* be able to hack up a compiler for your 6809 project.

Wish I could be a bit more help...
