	I would suggest a milling machine as well if you can $pend, or get a
combination lathe/drill press/milling machine if you're tight. (on money)
	Another consideration would be to hire out the machining.  There are
alot of small businesses that do first run/experimental machining.  This would
ensure a well made part, and perhaps save $$$ in the long run.

	A further suggestion, for text/references purposes is McGraw Hill
Series in Mechanical engineering, Mechanical engineering design, 5th edition.
  Its a pretty book, with alot of useful equations, constants, and its pretty
straightforward.  I'm using now for Machine design, and I would suggest it to
anyone.  It includes design considerations for shafts, gears, springs, beams
and every other mechanical component you can imagine.
