I am a junior at the University of Missouri-Rolla working on a small robot
design as part of a undergrad research project. What I am having difficulties
with is which processor or microcontroller to base the design on. I see that
the MC68hc11 has a large following on this group, but are their any alternatives to this chip? The system is going to be RF linked to a pc and all the controller has to do is handle movement, sensor acquisition, and asyncrhonous
communication to the pc. The initial model will use sonar rangefinding and impact detectors but I hope to later add vision, voice recognition, and a more powerful processor to move the pc main unit onboard. Since the pc will make most of the desisions, I am nothunting for corvette in a plastic case but something that is flexible and expandable.
