     There's an extensive literature on legged locomotion.  Look harder.
Try your college library.

     Also see "Making them Move" (Zeltzer, ed.), "Intelligence as Adaptive
Behavior", (Beer) , and "The Ants", (Holldober and Wilson).  These are
all recent books on the subject.
