Does anyone out there have any idea what Radio Frequency Identification
is all about? That is what they call the method used in anti-shoplifting
devices. Somehow a passive device on merchandise can be scanned by
door sensors, and if it hasn't been neutralized by the store clerk,
an alarm is set off.

I was wondering if this could be used for passive beacons for a
mobile robot. Detect the beacon, query it for its ID, look up
its location. I'm hoping the mobile platform could power the
beacon by bombarding it with electromagnetic waves.

Please post or e-mail. Thanks muchly.
