Call Digi-Key, I bought some ultrasonic transceivers from them for my array
signal processing project last year.  They are small, and work verywell.  I 
am sure they do the job as far as detecting distances from obstacles.  If you
need the number send me email and I will look it up.  If I recall correctly,
each sensor is about $10.00 to $15.00
