I am looking into selecting a linear DC motor for an application
which needs a travel of 1" total. Preferably, I would want a
brush type motor (based on my motion controller). The resolution
needs to be in the order of microns, and thus I am thinking of using
a glass scale for feedback.

PROBLEM: DC linear motors run into $1000+ price range. I am
wondering if anyone knows of a manufacturer that is supplying
these things for commercial applications, and has a more
reasonable price. I have tried sources like Inland Motor etc.
which command such prices ($5000!!!) since they cater to
military applications.
