I neither bothers nor surprizes me that you would guess this to be
the case. Do you have evidence? Have you conducted surveys? I would
guess that many specialists find many subjects outside of their
speciality less interesting than their favoured subject.
So?
I would guess that the majority of professional linguists find phonology
uninteresting. I doubt that this bothers you.
