_Origins_of_the_Japanese_Language,_Lectures_in_Japan_During_the_
Academic_Year_1977-78_, by Roy Andrew Miller (Univ. of Washington
Press, 1980) is a detailed and forceful argument in favor of the
membership of both Japanese and Korean in the Ural-Altaic family.
It also addresses early influences of Korean upon Japanese.

Miller's argument contains highly convincing examples and he
regards the question as settled. However, I've seen linguists
dispute this classification in sci.lang.

I would be fascinated to read a detailed refutation of Miller
in this forum, if anybody can offer one.
