I agree, and that would lead to a PIE *kweid- (or *kwiHd- if you want
to), but interestingly enough, my etymological dictionaries (for Dutch)
also mention a Sanskrit word s'veta-, s'vitna- `white', which would lead
to PIE *kweit-. Would anyone have an idea how to reconcile the t/d?
