I am trying to solve the problem of calculating the min and max values
of a function given its parameters and their known range of values.

Given that the function is a black box how best do I determine the
min/max of the function short of an exhaustive test of all possible
combinations of inputs.
A friend seemed to thing there may be some sort of fuzzy logic type
algorithm to solve the problem

Could you help me out or at least point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance
