The MOOSE

The MOO for Software Engineering (MOOSE) is a virtual space where MSE students and faculty can interact.

You can create a "player" to represent yourself while you're in the MOOSE. You can set the player's name and appearance, pick up and manipulate objects, have conversations with other players, and do many more things. The accommodations are a bit spartan at the moment, but that will change as participants build onto the MOOSE.

Entering the MOOSE

There are several ways to enter the MOOSE:

• Enter via your web browser. This is the simplest, but depending on your browser and your telnet client it may or may not work. If anyone knows a way to persuade a Macintosh telnet client to connect to an arbitrary port, please let us know.
• From a Unix machine, enter

  telnet cable.compose.cs.cmu.edu 7777
    

• If you like to use emacs, you might try putting this in your .emacs file:

      (autoload 'moose
  	"/afs/cs.cmu.edu/academic/class/15671-f95/moose/lib/emacs/moose"
  	"Enter the CMU MOO for Software Engineering (MOOSE)."
  	t)
  

  You can then enter the MOOSE from emacs by typing M-x moose.
