Rudy's parents are still in Jakarta, Indonesia. They did, however, come to US for his graduation from Calvin College in May 1997.

Rudy has one brother, Danny Setiawan. Danny is currently a freshman at Abilene Christian University in Abilene, Texas, majoring in Graphic Design.

Rudy also has two cousins who are currently still in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Newin Atmarumeksa graduated together with Rudy in May 1997. He is currently working full-time at a company in Grand Rapids. Newin's sister, Kristi Atmarumeksa, is still at Cal vin College, majoring in business. Another cousin, Garry Sofjan, is currently studying at San Diego State University in California.

The rest of Rudy's extended family are mostly in Indonesia.
