The DocuTech storage of files are called DocuTech Jobs. In the past
they were infact called DocuBlobs. These are DocuTech specific files.
Xerox now offers TCP/IP directly from the DocuTech as part of the save
option. In addition to that you may export the DocuTech Job in industry
standad TIFF format if you desire. These TIFF's would be usable for
incorporation in other applications.

Xerox also offers DocuTech Job to Tiff conversion software which is a
SUN based software offering and is called XDJC (Xerox Docutech Job
Converter). It will convert the files off the DocuTech t TIFF. What
this means is that you may infact use the DocuTech scanner for other
applications other than the printing operations that support TIFF.

One thing you must always remember about the DocuTech, It prints
Interpress or forms of it. All the frontend servers simply convert the
incomming HPPCL, PostScript, TIFF, or ASCII into a form of Interpress.
This is true of the Network Server, Media Server, NS Plus, or the Entire
front ends used with DocuTech, The communication via ethernet to
DocuTech is XNS using XNS print protocols.

The scanner that is used with DocuTech can also be purchased for
attachment to a PC. This is called the 620S or DocuImage. A full line
of products are built from this basic scan capability all the way from
just the scanner all the way through total document management packages
such as XDOD or Xerox DocuMent on Demand and internet powered
capabilities.

Hope this provides a little clarity and I am very pleased to see the
thread used for conversation on the Xerox DocuTech and other Xerox
offerings.
