>>> 'iv' problem from evan -- Thu Jan 26 15:57:03 1989 <<<

problem: noise in cables
cause: old, bent banana connectors; lack of grounding
solution: replaced all banana plugs using color coded sheaths(red,green,yellow)
added a ground strap from the scope ground to a banana jack on the back of the
column. This grounds the base and microscope as well as the shields of the
internal interconnecting wires (these had been ungrounded and could have been
a source of some of the noise).
Added another ground from the back of the column to the chrome plate (this is
insulated from the base). This can be unpluged if desired.
The test stage is still isolated. The existing lead (to the orange plug) is
still intact.

problem: User reports no vacuum for IV.

cause: Unknown. IV station was checked and found to have vacuum.

solution. None. Users should be aware there are 2 vacuum switches-
           one to secure the probe assemblies, and one to secure the
           sample wafer.

is.

>>> 'iv' problem from hoagland -- Tue Jul 18 11:54:40 1989 <<<

The curve tracer is being repaired today and should be up
again this afternoon if all goes well.

>>> 'iv' problem from hoagland -- Tue Jul 18 18:22:40 1989 <<<

Repair of the curve tracer will take slightly longer than
expected because of mechanical difficulties realigning the
collector high voltage switch. With luck it should be up
sometime tomorrow.

>>> 'iv' problem from hoagland -- Thu Jul 20 08:55:44 1989 <<<

The failure to repair this equipment stems from a knob on the
maximum collector switch which failed to detach as intended by
the manufacturer. This knob was to have a broken indicator
skirt reattached with glue. To remove the knob and shaft assembly
(now required) necessitated pulling apart the internal shaft coupler
for both inner and outer shafts of the switch. The knob was
repaired successfully, but lining up and securing the shaft
couplers later proved all but impossible(as suggested by
Tektronix). Therefore a replacement curve tracer will be
installed shortly in place of the now useless unit.

>>> 'iv' problem from bob -- Fri Jul 21 13:45:24 1989 <<<

A new curve tracer has been installed next to the iv. Steve will

>>> 'iv' problem from denlinge -- Sat Aug  5 18:57:25 1989 <<<

the probe needles are badly adjusted, the right (green) probe runs
out of range in the up direction at almost the same place as the
left (blue) probe runs out of room in the down direction, this makes
it difficult to raise and lower them on the sample. I am new to the
machine so I did not want to adjust the needles myself.

>>> 'iv' problem from mats -- Sun Sep 24 18:14:20 1989 <<<

1: The problem reported by Hsin is nonexistent: all three probes work.
    However, somebody had turned one manipulator about 40 turns (!!) out
    of range, until the screw disengaged...

2: The sample XY-stage has developed an annoying amount of play. This
    appears to be because the x-motion rails need to be tightened.

>>> 'iv' problem from evan -- Mon Sep 25 10:47:58 1989 <<<

problem: xy-stage has excessive play
solution: checked adjustment of x and y slider rails and found them to be
normal. Found the screws that hold the top of the stage (and y-direction rails)to the x-direction mechanics (on underside of main platform) to be loose. These
were tightened and the excessive play was removed. These screws are accessed
through the hole in the y-platform behind the work platform riser shaft. There
are two screws and the y-stage must be moved in order to align the hole with
screw heads.

A minor one: The Y translation stage for the wafer chuck needs to be
tightened (I can see, but not reach, the four set screws in question).
It works fine as it is, except that the excessive play lets the wafer
chuck vibrate, which makes micron scale work tricky.

>>> 'iv' problem from tom -- Thu Mar  8 15:15:18 1990 <<<

Problem: User reports vibration and play on the Y control.
Cause: Loose knob on Y control.
Solution: Tightened knob. There is still some vibration but the
              back left air puck is not inflated. I do not have time to
              find the atatchment to fill it. Later, later.....
