After everyone looks at you like you've just dropped your pants, explain that the CLV format was replaced a few years ago by a format known as CAA, for Constant Angular Acceleration, even though the discs are still labeled CLV. Constant Angular Acceleration means that the pit track is pressed on the disc in a spiral that becomes less tightly wound at the edge of the disc than at the center. This was done to overcome the problems of adjacent track interference which shows up as herringbone interference that worsens toward the end of the disc. Thus, while constant linear velocity is maintained, the angular movement of the laser across the disc speeds up. To avoid confusion, all CAA discs are labeled CLV. And now you know. :) - /\/\ Joe Ekaitis / .. \ vdaa06a@prodigy.com '--'
