Onslaught README file: 3/25/96

To run onslaught, simply type onslot at the dos prompt, or double click on
the onslot.exe icon in Windows '95.

When you start the program, you should see a map window in the center of the
screen and a cross-shaped mouse cursor. The four tanks clustered in the top
left corner of the map are yours to control, while the three tanks lined up
along the right side of the window are drones.

CONTROLLING YOUR TANKS

Control here is similar to shelshock. We have borrowed some ideas from the
interfaces of both Warcraft II and Command and Conquer.

To scroll around the map, use the arrow keys.

To select one of your tanks, move the cursor over it and click the left
mouse button. A selection box will appear around the unit. To de-select it,
simply left click anywhere that is not on the unit. To select several tanks
simultaneously, hold down the shift key while you left click on the tanks you
want. Boxes will be drawn around all the tanks that are currently selected.
You may not select the drones - they are the enemy.

Once you have selected at least one unit, you may give orders. To issue a
movement order, right click on any terrain that is not occupied by a drone.
Movement is similar to shelshock in that units can still only move in four
directions. The tanks will stop if they encounter water or mountains.

To issue an attack order, right click on a drone. The selected tanks will
continue to fire and reload until the drone is destroyed or they are issued new
orders. The only thing you will see is the drone dissappearing when it is
destroyed. Fear not - bells and whistles are in the works.

If you wish to move into terrain occupied by a drone or attack your own tanks,
you may override the normal behavior of the right mouse button. Holding the
CTRL key will force an attack order, and holding the ALT key will force a move
order.

THE LOG FILE

Various debugging information is being dumped to the file gameobj.log. This
file should document every time a unit takes some damage, among other things.
The file is overwritten every time the program is run.

KNOWN BUGS

The mouse corsor leavs trails when moved outside the map window. The reason for
this is understood, and this problem will be eliminated once we are satisfied
with the game engine and ready to work on the interface.

The behavior of tanks ordered to fire on themselves is not yet fully understood.
Try this at your own risk. It is our intent to disallow this kind of
foolishness in the future.
