TIA-P
Project Description
Two pre-production commercial systems have been developed. TIA-P (prototype)
incorporats a 100 MHz 486 processor in a
ruggedized hand-held pen-based system designed to support speech
translation, vehicle maintenance, and small unit operations (SUO)
applications. TIA-P has been demonstrated with the Dragon speech
translation system in Bosnia as well as Korea. Ten TIA-P's were
fabricated under the current DARPA contract with 15 more fabricated
under a contract extension. TIA-P has a full duplex sound chip on the
board, 2 Mbps spread spectrum radio, 16 MB of main memory (upgradable to 32
MB), and a 1.3 GB IDE disk drive. TIA-P has been designed in collaboration
with Telxon to allow transition to commercially supported manufacturing.
