Digital Ink
Project Description
Digital Ink is a product concept that has been developed to define the form
factor and usage scenarios prior to building a working prototype system.
Digital Ink is a
sophisticated pen that recognizes and stores the handwriting and drawing of
it's user. After writing, the user simply jots the word "send" or "e-mail"
followed by a fax number or e-mail address. The documents are wirelessly sent
via cellular network to fax machines, desktop computers or even other digital
pens. A small digital "ink well" connected to the user's desktop computer
serves as home to Digital Ink, and allows the pen's information to be
downloaded for future use. Digital Ink reinvents the computer desktop by
turning any writing surface - from napkins to paper - into low-tech and
socially comfortable computer interfaces.
Digital Ink won the 1997 Gold Industrial Design Excellence Award (IDEA) for
innovative industrial design. The IDEA Awards honor the year's best product,
multimedia, exhibit and packaging designs and is co-sponsored by Business
Week magazine and the Industrial Designer's Society of America (IDSA). This
year's IDEA awards drew from the largest and most internationally diverse
field of entries in its history.
