I am very sorry but this is a "student only" meeting and I didn't realize any Faculty would receive this message. I am sorry for any confusion. Diane You are cordially invited to attend a CALD student meeting with LUNCH... Date: Tuesday, April 13, 1999 Time: 12:00-1:30 Place: 4623 Wean Hall Caterer: Spice Island Organizer: Chuck Rosenberg The purpose of this meeting is to spark some interest and possibly collaboration between the students of the various CALD departments: Statistics, Computer Science, Philosophy, and Robotics. The faculty in these departments have found it very beneficial to collaborate on research problems and we are hoping to get the same kind of interaction among students. In this first meeting we will try to break the "ice". We will go around the table introducing ourselves and our research and then try to have a high level open discussion on the following topics in our various fields: * What are the big open issues? * What are 2 current hot topics? * What recent research results are you excited about? The goal is to help answer questions like "What has Machine Learning done for me recently?" and likewise "What are all those Statistics people working on these days?" In future meetings we can have more in-depth discussions on the topics brought up at this meeting. Please RSVP by Friday, 4/9/99 to diane.stidle@cs.cmu.edu And because it will be hard to remember who everyone is and what they are working on. Please also include in your RSVP a couple of sentences describing your research interests so we can pass this out to the group for reference during and after the meeting.
