Reviewer's discussion: Panosphere is unproven, link requirements are too high (hiuge domino effect) *Mechanical roboustness (bending loads, bearing engagement, bolted assembly, watch Al weldments, steering mechanism) mostl imp. part of your system (steering) is unbuilt/untested. Scope Creep (slip ring, laser scanner, science, too many sensors + feedback device, Why IMU + GPS)- cut all these You have rolling laboratory anyway. Just be creative. We haven't counted the no. of I/O lines you have, but it scares us. * Misison design - how novice will the operator be? - shape of course (circle, zigzag, random)? - snail vs turtle for 200 kms? (complete 200 kms fast and then do whatever you want; you don't need satellite link to evaluate terrainability). - Team burnout (on site) VASTLY underthought In Mt. Spurr we went for straight 7 days and slept in nice condominums We were burnt out completely. 40 days is bad. Look into other options, Two days work, two days off (away from rover). Filling in the gas is not only job. Control truck is the master station and you need to be very careful. - Money too thin. - Electronics- Improve rationale, simplify design, failure modes, tests, cooling - Some mechanical: brakes, under torque motors, linear encoder, electronics door detail Recommend --------------- - cancel all additional science scope * Combine satellite truck + repeater station If possible try everythnig in Pittsburgh (may not mount the dish) but have the satellite mount. - need IMU backup (IMU is lunar releavt- but your next four mission are Earth. good GPSs are available cheaply) - reduce risk in pointing system - must cut + limit scope NOW have a meeting and cut everything you don't need. How much man hours is associated with each circuit breaker. * Reduce panospheric risk + systemic demands - commerical system - image while stopped Rethink mission course + simplify logistics Refine overall success criterion Not bad, but should be little bit clear. * What about risk mitigation? What is each subsystem doesn;t come in time? When are you in trouble? What if Chilean govt. shuts down Get direct teleop robot first If you are in the big salt lake, you really don't need autonomous safegurad. DaveW - If you don't have panospheric sensor you don't need pointing, relayt station, NT box, relay station (Red) We promised these in proposals. (DaveW) Then your success criterion needs to reflect that- pano, pointing, novice drivers. (Murph) We can provide standard pan/tilt simulations for any bandwidth. I don't really need 2 Mbps. I can change FOV, compression, frame rate etc. to use whatever I have. (Hans) So is it going to start working in next 20 N days (Murph) Everything is working except that we don't have the compression/decompression. (hans) Is 0.5 Hz good enough for doing the mission (Murph) Equivalent to get the imagery while you stop. (Murph) The only question is DSP. It should be in here 4-6 weeks. (Red) Lets look at the link. The issues are satellite time, LOS, and pointing. We can work around first two. I don't want to compromise on pointing. (Red) We bring each of these issues on Thursday and look at them individually). (Red) Has the 70 deg antenna been tested? (Deepak) Yes (Bares) No, Put this on vibration table and see how it works. Positives: - (Dave) looks like a great team. I am sure there is - Scope is decreasing and going in a right diredtion. - I am really impressed with the way mechanism has come together. You should really commend yourself. (John) - strjongly recoomend that during the peak mission, pay satellite guy to be there everyday. We needed satellite guys everyday. - May be a pre-mission in Antafagsata. May be shipping container idea avoids it. - Component testing program awfully thin, almost missing. Hot, wind, fatigue, vibration (whole rover) - I want to see a bigger gas tank. You can go 5 days in one tank. Fill it 1/5th during hilly terrain. - VME picture- every single slot was filled. - Would like to have low bandwidth video. - Hard disk on machine? - Do you have enough torque to do skid steering.
