Generators and Fuel: Power for the CMU camp was provided primarily by a 650 W generator and a 1 kW generator. The 650 W generator was used as much as possible to reduce total fuel consumption, but was also needed for field experiments. The 1 kW generator was used whenever the 650 W was in the field. When at the camp, the 650 W generator sat leeward of the large Polarhaven tent on top of a wooden crate lid. The 1 kW generator was kept in a partially buried crate which had been turned on its side so that the opening was leeward and the top could serve as a door. All fuel (gasoline) was provided to CMU by INACH. Fuel was transferred from 200 liter drums cached in Patriot Hills into 20 liter jerry cans using a hand pump. Jerry cans were stored inside wooden crates when not in use for refueling. Human waste removal: Human waste was handled by Adventure Networks International in accordance with their policies and agreements. Members of the field team used ANI's latrines for solid waste and an empty 200 liter fuel drum for liquid waste. For extended field work, a makeshift latrine was improvised and all solid waste was returned to ANI's Patriot Hills camp for disposal, while liquid waste was returned in a small container and consolidated with ANI's.
