Yes, English is a complex hybrid.
Many English-speakers have through the years joined the camps of various
reform campaigns to make Esperanto look more like English, which would,
of course, also make it look more like Chinese.  Yet Esperanto still looks
like Esperanto, after some serious efforts to alter it. Get used to it!
