Hi,
I tried to post this to cluster_user@yale.edu but it bounced back.

Ardh (earth) in Arabic has no 'ain at the beginning. It is another word
in Arabic 'ardh (width) that has an ain at the beginning. There are
many common words in Persian and Arabic. Some of them with Persian
origin. e.g. barnamej (program) from bar-name in Persian (on-letter).
A very wild guess might be that /ardh/ is one of them. But /ard/ does
exist in historical Kurdish and Persian names.

E.g. ard-lan, ard-shir, ard-bil(?), ....

"ard" is not used in Modern Persian.

Please do not crosspost this message to irrelavant newsgroups.
It is not a good publicity for Kurdish.

Ps I don't think it helps Kurds to hide or distort the truth for
any reason. Kurds speak an Iranian language, but Kurds are not
the same as Persians or Afghans who speak languages from
other branches of Iranian languages. It is the LANGUAGE FAMILY
which is called Iranian. Also kurds (majority) practice
Islamic religion, but it doesn't mean that they are the same
   as Simitic arabs.
