No, but it really annoyed the bejeezus out of some of them.

Where on earth did you get the idea that that stops them?  I've held 
off from responding to them for weeks in the hopes that the Clue Fairy
will eventually wave her magic wand among the crossposters, but they 
keep coming back like a bad case of Good Times.

All that does is make it more difficult to gauge the response to my 
pleas.  I'm starting from the (possibly naive) assumption that those
at fault don't understand why what they're doing is inappropriate.  Now 
I'm expected to read alt.postmodernism if I want to explain to others 
why they should bother with elementary netiquette?

I'm not trying to sound like some raving priss.  Killing up to half
the threads in sci.lang is not a big deal, but if I can avoid having
to do it by a quick post to the handful of people responsible, why
shouldn't I give it a shot?

I think I'm discovering why...
