Anybody know the sound in Scottish Gaelic that is spelt ao, as
in "caoraich" (sheep)? My "Teach yourself" book says it is like
English ee, or oo, or like French oeu, meaning closed-front-
unrounded, closed-back-rounded, and half open-front-rounded.
That can't be true all at the same time, can it? So what is it?
