Yes, well I agree in principal, but it's also maybe a case of PostScript
being a little out of date, which is why Apple have jointly developed GX,
so you can basically access more characters in one font, up to 32,000, of
course this can be achieved in some form by PS, but I really don't know
how, something to do with Type 0 fonts?

And of course this is what "Expert Sets" are all about.

I think that there are also some localised versions of Adobe PS fonts, I
think that David Lemon mentioned them in reference to "lange ess" for
"Black Letter" German setting.

And yes, this would cause no problem to PDF.
