                        Speech Processing Engineer 


Wildfire Communications Inc. of Lexington, MA is an entrepreneurial  
company developing a new class of personal communication assistants.   
Wildfire's first product, recently announced, is a communications  
assistant which coordinates all the telephone communications for a set of  
mobile professionals.  The Wildfire assistant performs such tasks as  
placing outgoing calls, screening incoming calls, managing users contact  
lists, voice mail messages, schedules and reminders by responding to  
dialogs spoken by a user from any phone.

The Wildfire server is comprised of a set of software assistants which 
communicate with available devices abstracted by a virtual machine.  All
persistent data for both the runtime agent environment and the  
subscriber's personal data is stored in an object oriented database. The  
product is written in C++  and runs a version of UNIX system 5 release  
4.2.  Wildfire packages the agent software along with the hardware, an  
Intel Pentium based computer which includes line interface, line  
processing and speech recognition cards which communicate across a  
high-speed communications bus. 

Wildfire is looking for an energetic and self-motivated speech engineer to 
join our team. This person will be responsible for integrating third party  
and in house developed speech recognition software into the Wildfire  
Platform.  This will include measuring and helping to improve the  
performance of these systems. We are looking for someone with 2+ years of  
experience with speech processing. They must have a demonstrated ability  
to understand and analyze the operation of digital speech recognition or  
coding systems. Specific experience in the development of speech  
recognizers or speech coding systems is desired. 

Job Responsibilities:
=====================
* Create a working cross development environment & learn target embedded 
  system environment
* Port existing speech recognition algorithms to embedded telephony  
platform
  - port code to the DSP environment
  - work on glue between host 
  - develop algorithms to manage speech recognition resources better
* Generate reports which help identify speech recognition problems in  
systems
  running in the field
* Act as a liaison to speech software vendors
* Profile and optimize the performance of our speech recognizers 
* Assist in the development of in house speech processing software and  
tools

Specific Requirements:
======================
* 2+ years working in the field of speech processing
* Background in digital signal processing
* Development experience with C and C++
* Experience with UNIX and tools
* Experience with embedded development systems
* At least a Bachelors degree in EE or CS
