Among those of us trying to get jobs in cognitive science, it's widely
known (or at least believed) that AI's getting cut because military
spending's getting cut. The gov't couldn't care less about knowledge
per se, but if it can kill a few thousand of "The Enemy" more 
effectively, that's another story. :-(
