Tom,

For the Application Manager refresh problem I believe there is a 
preference setting for the Application Manager to turn on/off refreshing 
of the application list when the window got focus (it defaults to on).

This would cure part of your problem.

I was wondering myself about using ENVY via tele-commuting and if it 
would work.  Let me know if you find out any more.
