When using a common ground between a controller and motors, its
always helpful to use 50v .1 uf caps across the motor leads.
I've found my controller crashes frequently unless I do this.
You also might consider opto-isolating the Stamp; DigiKey has
NEC optoisolator chips that handle 4+ junctions and go for $1-2
