but this new mobile robot is a price/performance leader:


Real World/ActivMedia's NEW MOBILE ROBOT

Basic robot, fully assembled, 12.5"x 16"x 10", 
including 16-amp-hr powerpack, 7 sonars, 
2  range-sensing IR's, 2 DC motors with encoders, 
external 9-pin RS 232 serial port for external I/O, 
internal 10-pin ribbon cable connector to support 
onboard serial I/O, and differential dual drive. 

State-of-the-art software from SRI includes demos 
of sensor fusion, feature extraction, object 
(corridor and door) recognition, map building, 
fuzzy control, and reactive planning, all at the 
click of a button.  To be added (Summer, 1995): 
occupancy grid functions, neural network learning 
of sensor interpretation. Additional applications 
can be added in C++. Software runs native on Mac and Sun;
