There are probably many events that use the name "Robot Olympics". I
participated in one way back in 1990. The Turing Institute in Glasgow
hosted the "First International Robot Olympics". More than 60 robots
from 12 countries got together for some real fun. There were
definitely wall climbers, but I don't recall any table-tennis. My
little creation took home the gold in obstacle avoidance. Other
events included pole-balancing, walking (biped and quadraped) and the
javelin toss.

I think there were plans for another event in 1992, but I'm not sure if
anything came of it. One thing I *do* remember is that the International
Olympic Committee contacted the Turing Institute and demanded that they stop
using the word "Olympic"! (hence the subject change :-)
