Does anyone have a reference for a simple circuit sensor to detect a wire.
For a mobile robot I am designing, I would like to be able to corral the
robot with a wire loop 5-10cm below the ground.

Also a similar sensor for magnetic paint or strips of film or magtape.

Does there exist simple inexpensive phototransistors which can focus on a
1-2cm spot 5 or more cm away? I have only seen ones that focus just a few mm.

I am also looking for an example of an optical (IR) RS232 connector
for a MC68HC11 type micro-controller.

thanks,
