The San Francisco Robotics Society Robot Sumo contest was held on May 1
at an Jose State University. We had a great time! Of 14 registered
contestants, 7 entries arrived. All of the entries were "legal" in size
and weight. Two of the entries traveled poorly and were unable to start the
contest.

The results were:
1st Place - Autonomous - Greg Farnham
2nd Place - Autonomous - Charles Sun

1st Place - Radio-Controlled - Carlo Bertocchini

Actually, Carlo was the only RC entry. However, we didn't just give
him the trophy - he had to qualify. First, he squared off against the
3 kilogram "dummy" which he shoved off the mat in under 4 seconds. Then he
faced the Seattle Robotics entry "Motor Test" which he also quickly
defeated. Carlo's lovingly machined robot was a work of art.

In the autonomous division, we modified the rules to a "round-robin"
contest rather then the standard "best 2 of 3" in the Fuji rules. And
we had a tie!. This lead to final head-to-head competition which Greg
won in two hard fought matches.

A video of the competition is being prepared and will be available from
the San Francisco Robotics Society shortly.

Plans are currently underway for another Sumo contest in October
this year! Stay tuned for more details.
