John Lloyd at lloyd@curly.mcrcim.mcgill.edu is the main developer, and
very helpful.

Some information from the net from last April might help you decide:

The Robot Control C Library (RCCL) is a robot programming language and
environment, embedded in C, which runs in real-time on certain UNIX
workstations and is typically connected to PUMA robots as a replacement
for VAL. It is particularly useful for applications involving sensor-driven
trajectory tracking, and is currently in use at several sites in North
America and Europe.

The system also comes with a graphics simulator (no dynamics yet) that can
be used in place of a real robot. This runs under X11 or GL and supports
PUMA, Stanford, and Elbow type manipulators.

Host systems include Sparc/SunOS (not yet Solaris 2.X), SGI/IRIX,
MicroVaxen running 4.3 BSD.uVAX, and VxWorks; system can be connected to
PUMA 260/560/760 robots with Mark I,II, and III controllers. Sun and SGI
systems require a VME bus connection. Interfacing to other robots is
possible *if* you can arrange the necessary low-level interface.

RCCL is free for non-commercial and research applications; other
conditions are contained in the copyright notice. The complete system
source with manuals (PostScript) is available from anonymous ftp at
larry.mcrcim.mcgill.edu:rccl/rccl.4.2.tar.Z. For more information, get
the file rcclInfo.txt from the same site.
