Although they make teleoperated robots, and not autonomous robots, there is a
company in Oak Ridge, TN that has been successful selling robotic systems to
the U.S. Dept. of Def. I believe they got a contract for in excess of
100 units a year or two ago, but my memory is a little shaky about that. These
are militarized versions of a bomb disposal/surveillance robot that is used by
several police forces (one even captured a hostage taker single-"handed" in
New York City and another has been wounded in the line of duty by having a
TV camera shot off). Some of these were deployed to Kuwait to help in clean up
there after Desert Storm.

The company is REMOTEC (Remote Technology Corporation) and they are at 114
Union Valley Road, Oak Ridge, TN, 37831. If you're polite, they'd probably
send you some brochures with pretty pictures!
