There are several excellent articles whose names I don't have handy,
but author searches from John Craig, Bernard Roth and Madhusudan Raghavan
should find what you need.  The only one I remember is 
"Kinematic Analysis of the 6R Manipulator of General Geometry" by 
Raghavan and Roth.
