Hello,

I'm trying to build a simple IR proximity sensor that is light weight.
I'm currently thinking of using an IR emitter and IR detector from
radio shack. But I have heard there are some problems with the detector.

Does anyone have any experience with these little guys?
Or maybe has a lead on supply house where I can get parts like this?
Or schematics, or info?

One of the problems with the radio shack detector is that it tells only
if there is an object in front of the detector. I would rather have
a device that gives an analog that varies with distance from object.

If anyone has built one of these or has some schmematics on how to build
them using timers and op-amps or the like please send me a note.

Thank you,
