Satisfaction? The only satisfaction I'll know is when I've saved enough
money to replace the computers at work. The satisfying part will be
introducing Mrs Motherboard to Mr Sledgehammer.

: I know this might not be warrented but could you guys tell me what
: kind of pay you guys get, the nature of work that's involved and in
: general, how much you guys like your job?

Passion's nice, but the pay depends on how good you are. In USA anyway,
programmers are rarely unionised, so the pay varies by your skill and
demand. And some of the most highly skilled barely make poverty (until
the company goes public). For the most part, salaries tend to be in the
upper half of nonmangerial type jobs.

Most of the work is in debugging, maintenance, and tweaking code to
meet customer whim--er--design requirements. Boring, mostly. You need
alot of focus and determination. Some masochism. But when the damn
thing runs, really runs, well......

(It turns out if a person gambling simply loses money, they quickly stop
and don't lose much overall. But if they get small wins, they tend to
play until they've lost far more money. Sounds like programmers.)
