One field of research that I have been reading quite a lot of lately
is that of Autonomous Agent AI, also known as Nouvelle AI (new AI) which is
a bottom-up approach that fits quite well with the game environment.

One place to find some interesting articles is "Designing Autonomous Agents"
from MIT press (0-262-63135-0). It mainly deals with robotics, but much
of it is applicable to games (virtual robots).

If anyone else has been doing some readings in this area and has other
applicable references, please post them.
