Development, is the act of moving your pieces out from their initial squares to useful
ones (normally in the opening). It generally a good idea to ensure that as many of
your pieces as possible are place on active, useful squares before attempting any
attacks (as they will be hard to followup).

A passed pawn is a pawn that has no enemy pawns in front of it, either to the left by
one square, directly ahead, or to the right one square. Side pawns are passed if left
and ahead/ right and ahead are clear of enemy pawns. Its a good thing to have a
passed pawn because inorder for the opponent to stop it queening they must use pieces.
