Subject: International Conference on Neural Networks and Genetic Algorithms

[Editor's Note: Full text of this conference announcement is on ftp
server in /pub/ga-list/information/conferences/ICNNGA93]

A conference on Neural Nets and Genetic Algorithms is being organised
by the (European) Institute of Computer Science in Austria next April.
  Details follow.

International Conference on Neural Networks and Genetic Algorithms
Preceded by a one-day introductory workshop
		     University of Innsbruck, Austria
			     13-16 April 1993

			     Call for Papers

  PURPOSE AND SCOPE

Neural Networks and Genetic Algorithms are two areas of emerging
technology which have considerable synergy. Independently or in
conjunction, they have already produced many useful and interesting
  applications.

This conference has two purposes: to bring together established
workers in both fields, and also to provide an opportunity for those
wishing to gain understanding and experience in these areas. The
latter aim will be met in part by the workshop, at which introductory
concepts will be covered in detail with lectures based on printed
course notes. The language of instruction will be English, and the
workshop fee will include the cost of software. Workshop participants
will be able to register as listeners for the conference itself at a
  reduced rate.

The WORKSHOP will take place on 13th April 1993 and will cover

Basic concepts of Neural Networks and applications
Hardware realisations of NNs and applications
  NNs in optimisation
Basic concepts of GAs, applications in optimisation, control and links
  with NNs

The CONFERENCE proper will take place from 14th-16th April 1993.

It will focus on theoretical and practical aspects of both areas.
Contributions are sought for the following:

Theoretical aspects of Neural Networks -
Novel paradigms, training methods, models etc.

Practical applications of Neural Networks -
	  Pattern recognition, classification, fault detection,
	  optimisation, prediction etc.

Theoretical and computational aspects of Genetic Algorithms -
	  New processes/operators, analyses etc.

Practical applications of Genetic Algorithms -
Optimisation, scheduling, design, control, classifier systems etc.

This list is by no means exhaustive!

Authors should send an abstract before 31st August 1992, preferably by
electronic mail, although other modes of communication are of course
acceptable. Abstracts should be in English; if not using Email, please
send 3 copies to one of the addresses at the end. Acceptance will be
notified by 1st November 1992; the full papers should be delivered
  before 1st February 1993.

  PROGRAMME COMMITTEE

  R Albrecht(Innsbruck) - chairman
  K Warwick(Reading) H Saxen(Abo)

  PRACTICAL MATTERS

The conference fee is provisionally estimated at SFr 400, to include
a copy of the proceedings and the conference dinner. The fee for the
workshop will be about SFr 250; the reduced conference fee for workshop
participants will be about SFr 300.

Details of accommodation (not included in the fee) will be available
  later in 1992.
