Howdy,
        I would second a proposal to remove or somehow otherwise
isolate language describing a "top level" from the language
standard (FWIW).
        In many environments, there are no provided terminal
i/o streams (Windows 3.1, MacOS (I think), embedded 
applications). It's fun to watch programming newbies come of
age coding for Windows; you talk to them about standard
input/output/error and all you get is a big "Huh?" - they've
never seen 'em!
