I said "Freud proposed some analog-with-threshold network ideas around
1985."  I meant 1895, of course.

I'm not suggesting that Freud's ideas in "The Project" would be
considered important today, but they can be seen as anticipating in
spirit some of the really important ideas seen, for example, in
N. Tinbergen's 1950 "The Study of Instinct," which, in turn can be
seen as suggesting how many smaller nets could be organized into
cross-connedcted hierarchies of functi9ons that might produce
various aspects of animal behavior.
