In an arcane scroll, Alexander Williams quotes the holy scripturist
Keith Wiley , replying to the mystic words as written, saying:

>Pleeeeease pay attention to the conversation. I'm not talking about
>Tierra. This was about a proposal by Tom Ray to make a version of Tierra
>that would run on the internet. Ordinary, executable code that wouldn't
>be on a virtual machine because it would be on every machine in the world
>at once. As I discovered yesterday, he was not stopped however. He is
>planning the project right now and will release his minions quite soon.
>I'm excited to see what happens.

Perhaps it'd be better if you were to know what you're talking
about before you post?
The networked Tierra proposal would essentially model a seperated
group of "islands," each consisting of one virtual
machine/architecture running the net.Tierra code. As I understand
it, at various times the net.islands would transfer lifeforms from
one to the other, via various methods from direct TCP/IP to uucp
email, supposedly with the logical distance from the nearest island
being semantically thought of as the type of xfer and its speed.
(My little 486 throwing and receiving lifeforms via uucp email might
be thought of as a very backwards and far away island from the rest
of the archipelago, while a network of three net.Tierran islands
that exchange creatures every 10min via TCP/IP might be thought of
as three very close volcanic islands that somewhat grew together. I
get the Land that Time Forgot. Jurassic Park for Tierran
organisms.)
None of this, however, runs on a ``free CPU'' architecture in the
Internet, the Internet only runs as a medium of exchange.
