In an arcane scroll, Alexander Williams quotes the holy scripturist
Keith Wiley , replying to the mystic words as written, saying:

>You could be thinking of a couple of things. The closest thing I've
>heard is The internet-wide Tierra. Tom Ray wanted to do this but I think
>he was shot down by people who were afraid the project would fester with
>destructive programs.

This is really ridiculous, y'know? I was looking forward to
making even my little machine a distant archipelago of the
net.Tierran cosmology.
Mind you, of /course/ the project would fester with destructive
programs, we already are getting symbiotes and intrusive parasites
from the small universi we run now... but none of the programs could
survive outside their native environment. In fact, as I recall,
that was one of Ray's original decisions about the sour
architectures, that they /not/ be reflective of any existing
architecture.
For my /own/ part, I've fantasized about constructing a soup that
mirrors a running Windows system and see if the structure is
survivable enough for ALife entities, but I would need to slave a
/real/ Windows system to it /first/. Long, involvedd process...
